Loved Ones Honored With Fragile Creatures
The community is invited to participate in a special butterfly celebration honoring loved ones on Sunday, June 5, at 3 p.m. at Mission Hospital Laguna Beach.
The hospital’s auxiliary hosts the event to support hospice care services. Each participant will receive their own butterfly to release during the event. There will also be hundreds of additional butterflies released by chairs Patti Fouse and Leslie Wilhelm.
Donations will benefit hospice care and fund special services such as music therapy and massage, an expanded bereavement program and sponsored care for patients unable to pay for services.
Mission Hospital’s hospice team includes specially trained chaplains, nurses, counselors, social workers and volunteers committed to meeting each patient’s physical, psychological and spiritual needs through the end of life.

Garden’s Roots Extend to a Second Level
South Laguna Community Garden welcomes volunteer gardeners Saturday, May 28, at 9 a.m. to assemble and plant the first set of garden boxes on the lower level.
The garden at Coast Highway and Eagle Rock Way was transformed from a weedy vacant lot into a thriving community corner that received the city’s environmental award and the Chamber of Commerce’s beautification award in 2010.
Public Hearing Over Water-Rate Hike
South Coast Water District will hold two public hearings on Wednesday, June 1, at Dana Point’s Ocean Institute over a proposed increase in water rates.
The hearings are scheduled for 2 and 6 p.m.
Pub Stands Up for PUP
Hennessey’s Tavern and Protecting Unwanted Pets host a charity golf tournament Wednesday, June 15, at Aliso Creek Golf Course to support rebuilding of the Laguna Beach Animal Shelter.

E-Drive Spares 29 Trees and Raises Funds
Surterre Properties’ electronic waste drive collected 13,000 pounds of electronic waste and 3,300 pounds of paper during a free drop-off site last weekend.
In addition to sparing landfills from undesirables, the drive raises money donated in its entirety to Earth Resource Foundation that educates the public on a variety of “green” issues.
“This recent event saw 250 cars come through to drop off waste for recycling – our highest turnout to date,” explained Paula Ansara-Wilhelm, Surterre’s co-founder and chief marketing officer.
