Hotel Staffers Invited to Learn Laguna

Visit Laguna Beach offers front-line hospitality staff training about Laguna Beach’s most popular attractions, historical landmarks, new businesses and upcoming events.

These sessions, ranging from simple parking tips to planning the most detailed of itineraries, aim to equip hotel staff with the ability to answer routine queries to an individually tailored experience.

The training tour dates are: Wednesdays on April 23, May 21, and June 18

   

 

Transition Laguna Hears the Lowdown on Disaster Planning

Sue Kempf, a member of the city’s emergency preparedness task force, will describe what plans are in place to protect Laguna Beach residents in the event of a disaster at Transition Laguna’s Tuesday, March 11, 6:30 p.m. potluck.

The free event takes place at the Neighborhood Congregational Church, 340 St. Ann’s Dr.

Local Heros Honored

Reservations are being taken for the seventh annual Laguna Hero Fest on Friday, March 14, a celebration of women artists and activists.

Receiving the community hero awards are kelp-planting biologist Nancy Caruso and Mary Fergraus, founder of the Laguna Canyon Foundation.

Works of art by honorees Mada Leach and Robin Alrman will be on display and live music will honor musicians Beth Fitchet Wood and Shaena Stabler. Also honored, founder and artistic director of the Laguna Dance Festival, Jodie Gates.

Students from the Community Learning Center will sing “Vision,” an original song by Wendy Milette co-founder, along with Jeanne Meyers, of the My Hero film festival, during an afternoon program for kids from 3:30 – 5 p.m. which precedes the 7-10 p.m. main event. Planting Seeds That Heal

Topher Delaney will be the guest speaker at the 9:30 a.m. meeting of the Laguna Beach Garden Club, on Friday, March 14. The club meets at Laguna Presbyterian Church’s Tankersley Hall, 415 Forest Ave.

Hitting the Streets to Improve Mobility

City officials plan a community bike ride and walk on Saturday, March 15, to solicit suggestions for improving walking, bicycling and ways to get around town.

The tours set out from the Community & Susi Q Center; the four-mile bike ride departs at 11:30 a.m. while the two-mile walking tour sets out at 10 a.m.

Refreshments will be provided afterwards. Participants are encouraged to bring water and cyclists to wear helmets.

Spaces Unfilled in Disaster Training

Police are offering a Community Emergency Response Team training workshop to ready  volunteers to assist in case of a disaster.

The CERT program will begin on Wednesday March 19, and consists of 25 hours of classroom and hands on training and concludes with a mock drill. Classes will meet for seven consecutive Wednesdays from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m., followed by one Saturday morning exercise.

Boys and Girls Club Puts on the Glitz

The Boys & Girls Club of Laguna Beach will hold its 14^th annual Art of Giving Gala, “Putting on the Glitz” on Saturday, May 10, at the Montage Resort.

Guests can enjoy signature cocktails on the lawn where classic cars will be on display. The evening will continue with a silent auction and a 1920s cabaret dance show. A live auction will follow dinner.

Protect Your Pet for Free

Protecting Unwanted Pets will pay to spay or neuter pets of Laguna Beach and Laguna Woods residents from April 1-30.

Up to two pets per person are evaluated by a veterinarian. Medical attention beyond spaying and neutering is not covered by this annual event.

Utility Company Warns of Payment Scam

SDG&E warns customers to be aware of an ongoing fraud targeting residential and business customers.

Reports indicate that individuals are misrepresenting themselves as utility employees by calling customers and threatening to turn off electric and gas service if an immediate payment is not made. SDG&E customers should not provide any financial information by phone unless they have initiated the conversation.
