The Laguna Beach Community Foundation appointed Tom Davis and Jerry Bieser to its board near year’s end even as the 13 trustees led by Rick Balzer begin the task of finding a successor for its retiring president, Darrcy Loveland.

The foundation established to encourage philanthropy, provide expertise to local charities and connect donors to organizations that share their passions distributed $408,000 in 72 grants to nonprofits in Laguna Beach and across the country last year.

Since 2010, the foundation has contributed over $2.7 million through 230 grants.

The foundation manages 29 charitable funds with $2.4 million in assets. These include the Laguna Beach Community Enrichment Fund, Claes Andersen Hospitality Scholarship Fund, a Disaster Fund, the recently established Laguna Beach Police Officer Memorial Artwork Fund, four Nonprofit Funds and 20 donor advised funds established by individual or private foundations.

In the last year alone, the foundation doubled its number of donor advised funds as well as sponsored workshops for non-profit managers and professionals.

Loveland, a local resident and foundation chief executive since 2011, departs this month due to family health issues. Longtime local resident and nonprofit executive Robin Walker will serve as interim director.
