For the second year in a row, Laguna Beach Live! is bringing outdoor summer concerts to the Boys and Girls Club.  Guitarist Matt Quilter and drummer Lee “Kix” Rybacek kicked off the twice monthly series, performing surf classics while accompanied by club members on percussion instruments and found-object drum sets.

“These summer concerts are a wonderful experiences for the kids, as well as the musicians,” explained Sara Warner, education director for Laguna Beach Live! “There is a relaxed freedom to explore and learn from each other and they are great fun! By the end of the hour, almost everyone is playing, singing, or dancing.”

Over 70 club members attended the second Tuesday concert by flamenco artists Ruben and Dounia Gonzalez. The duo, known as Pasion Gitana, discussed rumba rhythms, world music, flamenco dance and percussion, and performed pieces from Cuba, Spain and North America.

The concerts are partially funded by grants and are free to club members.
