To take artistic inspiration to a new level, 48 school children went outdoors to paint on location, following the Laguna Beach art colony’s plein air tradition.

This week, the Laguna Plein Air Painters Association builds on that legacy, inviting 35 plein air artists to town for a competition. Events include matching students with mentor artists. Their work will be exhibited in LPAPA’s gallery space at the Forest & Ocean Gallery, 480 Ocean Ave.

Public art shows at Tivoli Too starting at 10 a.m. Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 15 and 16, conclude the contest. Proceeds from the sale of artwork benefit both the artists and nonprofit LPAPA.
