Laguna Art Museum’s California Cool art auction, with donated works by 100 artists, pulled in over $400,000 to benefit exhibitions and education programs, with Laddie John Dill’s “Light Sentence” earning the highest bid of $29,000, says a museum statement.

The net proceeds from Feb. 6 proved the museum’s most successful ever and exceeded last year’s auction revenue by 25 percent, the statement says.

Other live auction highlights included the sale of Billy Al Bengston’s “Robertula Dance” selling for $20,000, and Peter Alexander’s “Red Bar,” which also sold for $20,000. Shepard Fairey’s “Vive Le Rock,” which was valued at $3,200, fetched $5,000.

The evening also included a fund-a-need campaign, presented by board members Betsy Jenkins and Bob Braun, which raised $25,000 to specifically support the museum’s K-12 school tours programs.
