James Pribram, founder of The Eco Warrior Project, received a $5,000 check and recognition as Cox Communications local hero of the year earlier this month.

Pribram, a Laguna Beach native and professional surfer, started the project to preserve the environment and keep oceans and beaches clean. He is owner of The Aloha School of Surfing in Laguna Beach and organizes the Coastal Commission beach cleanups in Laguna Beach. “It was a great honor and a lot of fun being able to share the award with everyone and say thank you at the same time,” Pribram said.

Cox issues grants to those who help create or protect the outdoors.

Art of Fitness hosted a two-hour spin charity ride recently that benefited the Kathmandu orphanage Chhahari Organization, established by local resident Chris Casey.

Members and guests gave donations to reserve a bike for the occasion. Art of Fitness’ owners Marian Keegan and Fernanda Rocha are grateful to their members and staff for their continual support of local organizations and international non-profits.
