Dolores Marie DuPont Treviño passed away peacefully with her family by her side at her home in Laguna Beach on Dec. 30, 2015. Born in Pasadena on Sept. 24, 1935 to Joseph and Lauretta DuPont, Dolores attended St. Andrew’s High School and Pasadena City College. Through her older brother, Joe, she met Alberto F. Treviño, Jr., whom she married on April 16, 1955. The newlyweds drove across the country, spending their honeymoon in New Orleans, en route to Ft. Benning, Ga., where Al reported for duty in Special Services in the Army. After Al’s graduation from Harvard Graduate School of Design, Dolores and Al moved to Laguna Beach in 1958 and purchased a lovely ocean-view lot in Bluebird Canyon, designing and building a home on Madison Place with the help of her father and brothers.

Dolores was most dedicated to her 11 children and extended family. She is survived by her husband Alberto; brother Walter DuPont of Pasadena and sister Lauretta Petek of Palm Springs; 11 children, Paul, Anita Neubarth, Teresa Gacnik, Leo, Vincent, Dominic, Marguerita Edep, Clare Marino, Antonio, John and Laurence; 22 grandchildren, Jacqueline (Treviño) Kumar, Alexandra, Sara, Annika, Jonathan, Michaela, Zachary, Emma, Max, Ida, Joaquin, Dario, Chloe, Nico, Tyler, Lucas, Isaac, Ella, Gavin, Kate, Maya and Gabrielle; and great grandchild, Kaya.

A devoted member of St. Catherine of Siena Parish and a lifetime member of St. Catherine of Siena Women’s Council, Dolores worked in many capacities, most recently preparing meals for the parish’s priests and visiting bishop. Dolores taught preschool at Laguna Presbyterian Preschool and Montessori School of Laguna Beach and was loved by children and parents alike. Her smile, quick wit and unique sense of humor would brighten anyone’s day.

A natural beauty, Dolores exhibited a zest for life that will be forever remembered. She took care of those in need and cared for creatures great and small, songbirds, kittens, dogs, geese and other assorted animals. Dolores was an avid gardener, like her mother, and was surrounded by flowering plants and fruit trees. She excelled at playing piano and enjoyed singing songs from musical theatre. Dolores traveled with Al to Rome for the papal conclave and witnessed the election of Pope John Paul I in 1978. One of her favorite cities was Paris and she enjoyed wandering the streets of Montmartre and mingling with the locals. Her enthusiasm for living made for many fun adventures and spontaneous experiences … and always with her beautiful smile.

A funeral mass was held at St. Catherine of Siena Parish Wednesday, Jan. 6. Memorial gifts can be made to St. Catherine of Siena Women’s Council in support of Catholic education.

  1. I had the great fortune to raise my family on the same street as the Trevino family. Mrs. Trevino was a lovely, kind woman with a constant and strong faith. The Trevino family is composed of a diverse group of accomplished welcoming individuals, a grand accomplishment for any parent, Dolores was so proud of her family. On behalf of the Duncan family our deepest condolences to the Trevino family.
