The Thurston Middle School PTA will host the sixth annual Sports Swap from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 8. Items on sale will include skimboards, snowboards, surfboards, wetsuits, stand-up paddleboards, bikes, golf clubs, tennis racquets, baseball gear, snow gear, cleats, balls of all sorts and more.

Melissa Roller, the chair of the PTA fundraiser, invites the entire community to participate. “It’s a community event that provides families an opportunity to clean out their garages, make a little money, donate to Thurston’s PTA and outfit their growing children with up-to-date sports gear.”

Sports enthusiasts can donate, consign and/or buy gently used sports items, at a significantly reduced price. Donations are currently being accepted at all three Boys and Girls Club locations.

PTA volunteers will be at Thurston Middle School, 2100 Park Ave., from 7-10 a.m. on Thursday, Nov. 6, and from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 7 to collect gently used items. Sellers will set their own prices. For each item sold on consignment, Thurston will share half the profit. From 3-4 p.m. goods will marked down by 50%.

The Boys and Girls Club will be the recipient of any unsold, donated equipment at the end. Score 4 the Poor, a homegrown charity coordinated by LBHS students, will be collecting used sports jerseys for kids in Honduras and Mexico. The Thurston graduation committee will also be selling snacks and Laguna Beach Little League will sign up players for spring.
