Dr. Harry Bruce Cohen passed away at 75 in his home in Laguna Beach on Aug. 21, 2013 after a prolonged battle with multiple myeloma.
Retired since 2011, Dr. Cohen was a graduate of Brandeis University, and received his Ph.D. in psychology from McGill University in 1963. Until 1972 he was engaged in research at Stanford University with William Dement and the Stanford University sleep research lab. He joined the faculty of the University of California at Irvine in 1972, teaching in the medical school there for a number of years. The last decades of his professional life were spent working as a director for the county’s mental health services.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Adrienne M. Cohen; his younger son Sascha B. Cohen; his elder son Jonathan R. Cohen and his wife Lidija Cohen; two grandchildren Alexandra and Gabriella; and his siblings Vicki Orchier of Irvington, N.Y. and Irwin J. Cohen of Carmel, Ind.
