A Drop in the Bucket

Your Grandfather doesn’t believe in Christmas.

What do you know about it?

He doesn’t have a tree or any decorations.

That’s it, huh?

That’s all you’ve got?

Pretty skimpy evidence as Grampa would say, eh James?

Yes.

In fact he does have a tree.

That’s right, isn’t it?

No. Wait. He has two trees.

Two? That’s right Joan. He does have two.

One is inside and has a nativity scene under it and Neapolitan angels on the Spruce branches.

The other is outside and thousands of people come to watch and cheer every year when it’s lit.

And he has decorations in all the windows in every street.

And he has people too.

You’re right.

At street corners with bells and buckets.

Wait a minute. Those aren’t his people.

Yes they are. Do you think if our Grampas’  Mother hadn’t shown him , he would have taught his Son who in turn would demonstrate to us that it was the right thing to do to drop money in that bucket?

It is his bucket and it’s our bucket and believe it or not it’s your bucket too.

Like it or not we’re all in the same bucket.

Grampa Grant is Richard Hille, a long time Laguna Beach resident with three Grandchildren.
