Edward T. Graney, 84, passed away on Saturday, Jan. 11.

Born and raised in Illinois, he was a member of the Chicago police force from 1953-63, during which time he helped provide security for then-presidential candidate John F. Kennedy and was a member of the local St. Jude Police Branch.

He and his family moved to Laguna Beach in the fall of 1963, where he then worked for McDonnell Douglas Corp., until 1980, where he was president of the security union and a member of the West Charity Board.

He was a member of St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Parish, where he read the weekly Epistles for 40 years and served on its first school board and parish council. He served as president of the Mater Dei High Quarterback Club, was a member of the Knights of Columbus and president of the Holy Name Society.

He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Bridget of Dana Point; daughters Anne and Cathy of Dana Point; Noreen of Calgary, Alberta; son Edward of Las Vegas, Nev.; and nine grandchildren.

A memorial service/mass will be held at St. Catherine of Siena, 1042 Temple Terrace, Laguna Beach, on Saturday, Feb. 8 at 11:30 a.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital of Chicago, 4619 N Ravenswood Ave., #302 Chicago, IL 60640.
