Near alumnus Makenzie Fischer, who graduates officially June 18, flew the coup some time ago. In China last week, she scored three goals to lead the USA Senior Women’s team to an 18-9 victory over the Netherlands to capture the Kunshan Cup. This week, the team moved on to Shanghai for the FINA World League Super Finals, which began Tuesday, June 9 and continue through Sunday, June 14. After that, the team enters the Pan Am Games in Toronto, Canada, next month.
Keaton Jones ’11 is closing out his four-year baseball career as Texas Christian’s short stop, starting every game (246) but one in the four seasons for the ranked Horned Frogs. This past weekend, the Frogs advanced to the College World Series for the second straight year.
Saturday, TCU beat Texas A & M 13-4 with Jones going two for four at bat, driving in three runs. After dropping a 2-1 game on Sunday, TCU bounced back to defeat A & M 5-4 in 16 innings with Keaton responsible for a key double in the fifth inning that gave TCU their first lead at 2-1.
His freshman year saw TCU share the Mountain West title and advance to the Super Regional, losing to UCLA. His sophomore year TCU finished third in the Big 12 and did not qualify for post season. Last year, the Frogs finished in
the top 10 and went 1-2 in the College World Series in Omaha.
At Laguna, Jones was a three-year player and was selected the Orange Coast League pitcher of the year in 2011 (7-0) and was selected all-CIF. When he wasn’t pitching, Jones played second base for the Breakers, hitting .429 as a senior leading the team with 16 doubles.
