A free reception open to the public Saturday, July 16, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. marks the opening of “The Shakespeare Series” exhibit at Wells Fargo Bank’s third floor gallery.

Guests will be treated to a performance of Shakespeare’s Fool by guitarist Jason Feddy and vocalist Ava Burton.

The exhibit, which runs through Sept. 15, pays tribute to the late local artist David Rosen, the first non-traditional painter to be allowed to exhibit at the Festival of Arts.

The exhibition set another milestone as the first investigating the history of regional art utilizing the resources of the Festival of Arts’ newly established collections research center, foaNORTH. The series of 24 graphic paintings based on Shakespeare’s plays are some of the best-known and critically acclaimed works of Rosen’s career. The Festival’s collection specialist, local resident and artist Pat Sparkuhl, developed the presentation.

Making his home in Laguna since 1958, Rosen’s work was shown in 17 major national annual exhibitions including the Festival of Arts. He died in 2004.
