A presentation about underage drinking that draws on current trends and narratives from top experts will take place at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, April 30, in the high school’s Artists’ Theatre, 625 Park Ave.

“Navigating the Teen Years–Social Pressures, Issues and Underage Drinking” is open to parents and students who attend LBHS and Thurston Middle School as well as   Corona Del Mar and Dana Hills high schools.

“I cannot overstate the importance of educating parents on how to communicate with their children about drinking alcohol,” said LBHS Assistant Principal Bob Billinger. “Spending time as a family discussing healthy choices and alternatives as well as explaining the dangers of alcohol on the brain at a young age can help significantly reduce the chance of their children’s underage drinking.

“Alcohol is one of the top three drugs used by teenagers and this evening will provide valuable information as well as tips which will help parents have meaningful conversations with their students about this topic.”

Students and parents will initially hear separate presentations and then join together in the Artists’ Theatre to hear OC Superior Court Judge Richard Lee. Speakers range from sheriff’s Deputy Brian Gunsolley to Dr. Ken Woog, who leads a Pepperdine University counseling service for at-risk youth through its graduate school.
