Boys Water Polo (3-3)

Breakers finished 11th in the 16-team Santa Barbara Invitational last weekend as Laguna lost a couple of heartbreak matches. On Friday, Sept. 14, the Breakers opened play with a 10-9 sudden-death overtime loss to Miramonte (Orinda), defending North Coast Section CIF Champions.  Riley Thomas led the team with four goals, Camron Hauer chipped in two scores, three assists while Maxx McCarter recorded 11 saves in the contest played at Dos Pueblos. In the nightcap, Laguna defeated the host Chargers 11-7 as Thomas scored four goals, Caleb Scott added a score and five assists, and McCarter had 15 saves.

On Saturday, Sept. 15, Breakers suffered another tough loss losing to Vista, the defending San Diego CIF D-I champs 12-11 in a match played at Dos Pueblos. Hauer had six goals in the loss to the Panthers.

Breakers bounced back to take the final contest defeating Acalanes (Lafayette) 16-10. Nine different Laguna players scored in the rout of the Dons led by Thomas with five goals. Mater Dei repeated as champions defeating Loyola in the finals. Agoura was third.

On Thursday at Oaks Christian, Laguna suffered an 8-5 double overtime loss to Agoura, the top team in Laguna’s CIF Division.

This week Laguna, ranked seventh in the county, participates in the 32-team South Coast Tournament, opening play with Santa Margarita on Thursday at the Corona del Mar pool.

Girls Tennis (3-3)

Breakers dropped a 15-3 match to San Clemente last Thursday, Sept. 13, and open their league race this week with Saddleback and Estancia. Breakers are hoping to extend their 61 straight league match streak with a pair of wins.
