Final Open Studios Tour Set for Saturday

Observe 31 artists working in a spectrum of art media during Laguna Beach Artist Open Studios, which takes place from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, March 7.

Participants can catch the free shuttle from the ACT V parking lot, 1900 Laguna Canyon Road, and take advantage of free parking.

Participants will be entered in a drawing for Pageant of the Masters tickets as well as seeing the behind the scenes process that takes place in an artist’s creative space.

Artists Try Out Gels, Pigments and Paints

Nationally renowned painting instructor Kevin Greeland will demonstrate various waterbased mediums at a Laguna Outreach for Community Arts seminar for artists Sunday, March 15.

The 1-3 p.m. $15 workshop takes place at the studio of Sandra Jones Campbell, 2173 Laguna Canyon Road. Attendees will take home paint sample kits, art supply swag bags, and Laguna Art Supply coupons.

Calling All Artists

Laguna Beach is calling for artist entries in three public art competitions with deadlines this month.

Art That’s Small at City Hall, with prizes from $125-$500, has a

pre-registration deadline of March 10. 
 Deadlines for the 2015 Banner Competition with a $2000 honorarium, and the 2015 Postcards from Laguna competition, with a $2000 budget per mural, are both March 16.

 Painters Open Their Easels on Location

The public is invited to meet 30 plein air artists and view their artwork from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday, March 14 and 15 in the Crystal Cove State Park historic district.

Jean Stern, the executive director of the Irvine Museum, will lecture on “California Coastline through Art,” a discussion on coastal ecology through the lens of plein Air painting.

Half the proceeds from sales benefit the Crystal Cove Alliance and its mission of park restoration, conservation, and education.

Alliance members can preview the work at a 5:30 p.m. reception Friday, March 13.

Gallery Q Invites Paper Artists to New Exhibit

Gallery Q at the Susi Q’s invites artists who work on paper to bring their art work from 3-5 p.m. on Wednesday, March 18, or from noon to 2 p.m. on Thursday, March 19.

A special section devoted to the creative paper work of children from the Boys and Girls Club will be on display with the rest of the work, March 23 through May 6.

Paper works may range from origami to paper lanterns.

An artists reception is set for Friday, March 27 with former Mayor Wayne Baglin.
