A day after this year’s Grammy awards, Suzanne Foltz of Laguna Beach was shocked to learn she, too, was an award recipient, named the volunteer of the year by the Assistance League.

Born in Seattle, Wash., Foltz moved with her family to Laguna Beach in 1969 when her father, Dr. Eldon Foltz, was recruited as part of the founding faculty of UC Irvine’s College of Medicine. Foltz feels fortunate to have grown up in Laguna, graduating from the high school in 1974.

Foltz, self-employed as a graphic designer and printing broker for three decades, recently moved her office into her home to become more involved as a caregiver.

After working alone as a designer, she views her decision to become involved in the Assistance League as a rejuvenating turning point. By volunteering, Foltz made new friends, revived her spirit of camaraderie and joy in helping others.

Now, because of the Assistance League, Foltz looks forward to holding babies at the Early Intervention Program, coming up with design ideas for flyers and ads, and volunteering at the league’s Turn About Thrift Shop, 526 Glenneyre.

By sharing her graphic design talents and skills with the Assistance League, Foltz is helping with branding and marketing its philanthropic programs.
