In opening a new grocery store at 26560 Moulton Parkway in Laguna Hills, the Smart & Final Charitable Foundation donated a check for $2,500 to the Laguna Food Pantry and local campus New Vista School for special-needs learners, says a statement.

The new Smart & Final Extra! store opened in a location previously occupied by Fresh Market. The store seeks to combine the high quality fresh produce of a farmer’s market, with the low prices of a discount grocer and the super-sized products of a traditional club store. It has no membership fees.

Every weekday, Laguna Food Pantry, 20652 Laguna Canyon Road, distributes 2,500 pounds of food to shoppers with low-income households from the area from 8 to 10:30 a.m. Monday through Friday. Among those households, half are feeding babies and children at home.

Always welcome are nonperishable food items, monetary donations and prospective volunteers. Info: 949 497-7121. www.lagunafoodpantry.org.
