Freshman Liv Mitchell broke the Laguna Beach High School record for diving during her first varsity dive meet at the Mission Viejo Swimming and Diving Invitational on Saturday, March 28.

The 14-year-old competed with 37 divers all trying to obtain the automatic CIF qualifying score of 320 for Division II. Liv received a final score of 456.95, a school record, according to Coach Beth Weber. The previous record was 387.90 set by Lena Kardos in 2009.

Liv placed fourth overall in the competition, bringing in 19 points for the Laguna Beach swim team.

Liv has been a nationally ranked USA Junior Olympic diver since 2009. She made the switch to attend Laguna Beach High School in order be part of the LBHS swim/dive team.

Her goal is to improve upon her school record and assist with points for the swim team. She’s looking forward to Division II CIF championships in May.
