Gail Converse, 65, of Laguna Beach, passed away on Feb. 14, 2016, surrounded by her family after a six-year battle with cancer.

Gail was born on June 10, 1950, in Los Angeles to Robert and Melva Goodwin. She was the youngest Goodwin daughter, following behind Judy and Nancy. She grew up in West Covina and graduated from South Hills High School in 1968. After graduation, Goodwin moved to Laguna Beach. She received her bachelor of arts in psychology from Chapman University.

In the late 1970s, Gail met Tres Converse. The two were married in 1980. They had two children, Andrew in 1982 and Hillary in 1985. In the mid-‘90s, Converse became the school librarian at Top of the World Elementary School. A few years later, she transferred to Thurston Middle School as a special education aide, a job she really loved. Converse retired from Thurston in 2013.

Converse is preceded in death by her parents, Melva and Robert Goodwin, and husband, Tres Converse. She is survived by her sisters, Nancy Goodwin and Judy (Goodwin) Soderlund; her children, Andrew Converse and Hillary (Converse) Wolett; and many nieces and nephews.

As Converse had requested, there will be no service or memorial. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Converse’s name to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 22478, Oklahoma City, Okla., 73123.
