The Artists Fund at Festival of Arts previews “The Shoe Show,” at Laguna Beach City Hall. Forty originals by Festival exhibitors go on public display Thursday, June 2, at a 5:30 p.m. reception.

In keeping with the theme, guests are invited to attend in their most fabulous shoes.

Standouts include “Don’t Bug Me” by Shelley Evans. Her wall sculpture is composed of women’s sandals and reads like a praying mantis. Catherine Cooper hand-painted flip flops on a skimboard. A photo by Roger Bennett features burly men wearing Dutch shoes. Other works are by Bill Denham, Jeffrey Frisch James Nordstrom, Sherry Salito-Forsen and more.

Artist Charles Pabst’s new series of oil painting landscapes opens at the Signature Gallery, 220 Forest Ave., from 6-9 p.m. Thursday, June 2.

In a milestone for emerging artist Gaylen Solomon Corbett, her first solo show opens at 4 p.m. at Lang Fine Art, 1450 S. Coast Highway, Saturday, June 4.

First Thursday Art Walk visitors can get a sneak preview June 2; the show runs through June 28.

“Edges: Lost & Found” features multi-media works that Corbett created in the past year. She defines the collection as “modern watercolors,” featuring abstract and loosely representational subjects that are accented with metallic pigments and archivally sealed. Unlike traditional watercolors, typically framed and shielded behind glass, viewers can see and even feel the texture of Corbett’s works.

“It takes dozens or even hundreds of layers of paint to create these works, yet with watercolor, the layers are so thin that the texture of the paper is still present,” says a statement by the artist, daughter of well-known local watercolorist David Solomon.
