Local Saxophonist Woos Wine Tasters

Saxophonist Benn Clatworthy and singer/songwriter Sam Curo will perform from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. tonight, March 4, at the Laguna Canyon Winery, located at 2133 Laguna Canyon Road, for their first-Friday-of-the-month wine tasting event.

First Sundays Introduces Harpist Leah Panos

Laguna Beach Live! presents a free chamber music concert with harpist Leah Panos on Sunday, March 6, Studio 8 in the Laguna College of Art & Design, 2222 Laguna Canyon Road.

Panos’ varied program will include works from Debussy, Puccini, Fats Waller and others. The concert will be held from 3 to 4:30 p.m., and guests are encouraged to come early enough to visit the college’s art gallery, which opens at 2 p.m., to see “Phenomenon: a juried Exhibition of Environments for Game Art.”

Panos earned her degree in music performance at San Diego State University, where she received the outstanding graduate award in 2006, and she continues to serve there as an artist-in-residence. Panos has performed and toured with a number of orchestras and music ensembles throughout Southern California. She has also composed several harp arrangements of pop and film music.

Locals Debut New CD at the Coach House

Local musicians Sasha Evans and Doug Miller will debut their new CD, “The Proof Is in the Pudding,” at the Coach House at 6 p.m. on Thursday, March 10. Danny Mika and Jason Feddy will open the show.

According to Evans, the concert is kid-friendly and “it is going to rock.”

Laguna’s Stray Cat Performs at Galaxy Theatre

Laguna Beach resident and solo artist Lee Rocker returns from a Broadway stint in New York’s “Million Dollar Quartet” to perform at Santa Ana’s Galaxy Theatre, 3503 South Harbor Drive, at 8 p.m. March 5.

Joined by guitarist Buzz Campbell, guitarist/slide player Brophy Dale and San Francisco’s maestro session drummer Jimmy Sage, Rocker will treat fans to his most memorable tracks, as well as fan favorites, including Stray Cats hits like “Rock this Town,” “Stray Cat Strut,” “Bring it Back Again,” and “Sexy and Seventeen.”  He’ll also perform renditions of songs of such other musical icons as Elvis Presley, Willie Nelson and The Beatles.

The concert comes on the eve of the release of Rocker’s new EP, “The Cover Sessions,” on March 15. In addition to the upright bass, Rocker sings, plays multiple instruments on the six-track collection of his favorite ‘70s AM radio hits.
