Hitting the High Notes Early and Late

Jazz vocalist, Yve Evans will join the choir at the Laguna Presbyterian Church, 415 Forest Ave, on Sunday, July 28,. The community is invited to enjoy this performance at the 8:30 and 10 a.m. worship services.

Evans, who has studied classical music, gospel and rock, returned recently from performing at the Mammoth Jazz Festival where she was a guest artist.

She also performs for the Jazz Wednesdays Summer Series on Wednesday, July 31 at the Rose Garden at the Hotel Laguna, 425 S. Coast Hwy from 6 to 8 p.m.

Food and beverages will be available for purchase. Online tickets are sold out, but call for wait-list cancellation at 949-715-9713; tickets are $18 at the door.

 

Broadway Chef Turns Up the Heat

Broadway Chef Amar Santana will demonstrate step-by-step some of his favorite recipes and share samples of his finished creations with the audience at the Festival of Arts Sunday, July 28 from 1 – 2 p.m.

The menu of Santana’s Laguna Beach restaurant focuses on local farms who can provide the menu’s seasonal requirements. The event series takes place in the Festival’s Art Center and is free with Festival admission.

 

No Square’s Show Proves a Laughing Matter

No Square Theatre’s summer musical, “Lucky Stiff,” is a classic musical farce, complete with slamming doors, mistaken identities, $6 million in diamonds, and a corpse in a wheelchair.

In the hands of veteran director Joe Lauderdale, No Square’s production is pitch perfect for summer silliness and opens at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Aug 2, at Legion Hall on Legion Street. Tickets are available online. Performances Aug. 2-4, and 9-11.

 

Artists Mix Things Up at Art Talk

Mixed media artists Carolyn Machado and Mia Moore discuss how artists find and use inspiration in their work during the Festival of Arts’ Art Talk series on Thursday, Aug. 1 at noon.

The longtime Festival of Arts exhibitors, who collaborated on a design for the Festival’s Runway Fashion Show, will use the costume as an example of what serves as a catalyst for their work.

The talk is free with festival admission and to local residents.

The Inn at Laguna Beach has partnered with nearby Las Brisas, and for the first time offers hotel guests the restaurant’s signature cuisine from the Inn’s rooftop bar with a view of Main Beach and downtown Laguna.

Hotel guests can order meals throughout the day directly from their room. Or for guests who overlook weekend dinner reservations, they can still nab some of the best seats in town to enjoy food and drink in the unhurried atmosphere of the hotel’s Pacific Terrace Bar.
