Girls JV Shines Again at Mt. SAC Invitational

On the heels of a second place finish at the OC Championships, Laguna’s JV cross country team finished third out of 23 teams in the JV national championship race at the Mt. SAC Invitational on Saturday, Oct. 26 in Walnut, Calif.

Senior Monica White and junior Annie Brown were the only two runners to compete in both races, as Coach Steve Lalim continues to mix and match his line ups each week to keep the deep and talented team fresh and give everyone a chance to compete.

White again led the scoring five for the Breakers, finishing 15th overall out of 164 runners with a time of 21:05. She was followed by freshman Sabrina Flagstead (21:15, 19th), senior Audrey Rodriguez (21:32, 24th), and juniors Carlee Ressler (21:33, 25th) and Livie Clark (21:36, 27th). Brown (22:10, 42nd) finished sixth.

With most of Laguna’s number one ranked CIF varsity team taking the week off in preparation for league finals, freshman Kirsten Landseidel led the Breakers to a 10th place finish out of 21 teams in the varsity sweepstakes race, finishing 25th overall out of 140 runners with a time of 19:32.

Rounding out the scoring five were freshman Greer Jacobs (20:28, 56th), sophomores Taylor Alvarez (20:38, 63rd) and Allison Konno (20:41, 66th), and senior Brielle Budroe (21:12 87th). Sophomore Lauryn Alvarez (21:16, 89th) and freshman Bailey Shoemaker (22.28, 117) finished sixth and seventh.

A second group of Laguna runners took second out of 17 teams in the unseeded JV race. Senior Kayla Baskevitch led the Breakers, finishing fifth out of 210 runners with a time of 23:30.

The rest of the scoring five were juniors Rachel Hunter (23:51, 8th), Ariel Carlson (24:22, 13th), Julia Nasiell (25:04, 25th) and Grace Tempest (25:34, 34th). Sophomore Malia Helms (26:00, 37th) finished sixth.

The freshman team finished eighth out of 13 teams, led by Ana Kelly, whose time of 23:49 put her 18th out of 183 runners. Rounding out the scoring five were Elie Glade (25:00, 29th), Sidney Harris (25:56, 35th), Sidney Kimball (26:28 40th) and Katie Williams (26:47, 44th).

The boys’ team did not compete at Mt. SAC.
