The young but talented Laguna Beach High School girls’ varsity cross country team scored a surprise win at the Stanford Invitational last weekend, taking first place in the Division 4 varsity girls race and beating 25 other teams.
Janie Crawford led the team with a time of 19.55 on the three-mile course of rolling hills at Stanford University. She was followed by Livie Clark, Carlee Ressler, Natalie Kimball, Eliza Romero and Katie Grayden. “Wow! We had a great weekend!,” said head coach Steve Lalim. Going into the race, Breakers were unranked in the state and on the starting line faced fourth-ranked Mayfield and fifth-ranked Notre Dame.
“Let’s just say we didn’t leave the meet unnoticed. We won the whole thing!”
The Breaker girls led at the mile mark, and increased the lead to seal the deal.
