Laguna Beach High School alum Breanna Hite (’09) received her commission as an ensign in the U.S. Coast Guard on May 22 after graduating with honors from the New London, Conn., academy with a bachelor of science degree in marine and environmental sciences.
Vice President Joe Biden addressed the 227 cadets, which included a record 66 women. Each cadet is committed to serve a minimum of five years, including two aboard cutters, buoy tenders and ice breakers that make up the Coast Guard fleet.
Hite will serve her first two years in Miami near the mouth of Biscayne Bay, where she will be a deck watch officer.
