Larry Nokes, a local attorney and president of the Chamber of Commerce, won the Silver Tongue Award in the friendly competition between guest DJs during local radio station KX 93.5’s fundraising drive last month.
The award was bestowed on the DJ who helped raise the most money during the two-day winter membership drive, which brought in $27,000 to supplement the station’s operating budget. A close second place went to Clay Berryhill, who featured the musical group of local all-star musicians that he produces, The 133 Band, during his on-air time.
Other guest hosts included Mayor Bob Whalen, City Council member Toni Iseman and local business owner Mark Christy, who shared stories and songs selected from their own collections, took requests and even played vinyl during their one-hour time slots.
