Boys Soccer (1-1-2)

Breakers picked up their first win of the season with a 2-1 victory over Northwood in a contest played on Monday, Dec. 9 at Guyer Field. Breakers were down 1-0 at the intermission and won on goals by Willy Wheeler and Harrison Gregory. Coach Daniel Richards commented on the win:

“This was a much better team performance tonight and the boys got a well-deserved victory.”

“Our opening week was difficult and this was a good way to bounce back. In our first few games we never really showed the type of soccer we know we can play, and will need to play, to be successful this year. We did a much better job of controlling the midfield and getting numbers up in the attack. Our shape at the back was far better and it was simply a more complete and well-rounded performance.”

Previously, Breakers lost to Irvine 1-0 on Dec. 4 at Irvine then tied Crean Lutheran 1-1 at home on Thursday, Dec.  6 with the goal scored by Chris Telez. Breakers host Tesoro on Friday, Dec. 13 then travel for three non-league matches before the winter break.

Girls Soccer (1-2-0)

Laguna opened at Tustin on Dec. 3 with all players participating in the 3-0 win. Christine Johnson scored first (assist Katelyn Carballo), followed by Summer Stanaland and Maddy Kristensen. Kylie Geroge had four saves.

Last Saturday, Laguna dropped a pair of matches in the Ocean View tournament on Saturday, Dec. 7 losing 1-0 to Brea-Olinda and 1-0 to host Valencia with both matches played in Placentia. Laguna will face La Mirada and Cypress on the 14th to conclude tournament play then travel to Irvine for a match on Dec. 17 and return to host San Juan Hills on Dec. 19.
