Laguna Sweeps Saddleback – Sets Season Theft Record

Breaker base runners stole six bases on Saturday, April 19, in a 18-0 victory at Saddleback (2-17, 0-7) to set the team season record at 69 and topping the previous mark set in 2007. Breakers banged out 19 hits, received five walks, four reached base on error and Steven Harrison was hit by a pitch adding to his career record. Richie Nunis and Jack Simon each had three hits to lead the way. The team tied the single game record with nine doubles and Will McInerny (4-0) received the win for four innings of work. Richie Nunis, Ashton Goddard, and Jack Simon each pitched an inning in relief to preserve the shutout.

On the previous day, Breakers won 6-1 as Grant Wilhelm picked up his seventh victory for the season. Coach Mike Blair cleared the bench to give everyone a chance to play. The Roadrunners made a number of great fielding plays to stop Laguna and keep the score down. Saddleback’s lone run came in the last inning to break the shutout.

Looking ahead: Breakers have now won 26 league games in a row dating back to 2012 with eight remaining conference games.

At Estancia on April 22, home on Friday, April 25, for Estancia. Next week is the big series with Calvary Chapel with Tuesday at home and Friday at Vanguard University.
