Republican State Senator and congressional candidate Mimi Walters will be the keynote speaker at the annual Memorial Day program on Monday, May 26, taking place at 11 a.m. at Monument Point in Heisler Park, 375 Cliff Dr.

Preceding the ceremony, Laguna’s Exchange Club will hold its annual Memorial Day fundraiser breakfast, also in Heisler Park, at the picnic area below the corner of Myrtle and Cliff Drives, from 7 to 10:30 a.m.

Tickets for flapjacks flipped by firefighters are $5 and proceeds benefit the Orange County Child Abuse Prevention Center.

The American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars service at Monument Point follows at 11 a.m. and includes a police department color guard.

The patriotic fervor continues after the service with Laguna Concert Band’s Memorial Day concert. The band tunes up on the cobblestones at 12:30 p.m.

Walters is a candidate for Congress in the 45th district, the seat currently held by Rep. John Campbell, who is retiring at the end of his current term. Another Republican, a Democrat and a Buena Park candidate with no party preference make up the field. Since redistricting, Laguna Beach has been represented by Republican Dana Rohrabacher.
