J. Michael O'Toole

J. Michael O’Toole was born Aug. 3, 1981, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. His family moved to Dublin, Ohio, in 1987 where he attended The Wellington School, graduating with highest honors. During this time, O’Toole achieved all-state honors in golf and received the prestigious “Archie Griffin Award” from the Ohio State High School Athletic Association. His education continued at Flagler College in St. Augustine, Fla., where he again graduated with highest honors and played varsity golf.

After spending several years with his family in Laguna Beach, he moved back to St. Augustine to start a new business.  O’Toole, 29, unexpectedly passed away in his sleep on May 8.

He is survived by his parents, Susan and Nicholas O’Toole, and brother, G. Taylor, all of Laguna Beach; and his  grandmother Evelyn Knott of Peoria, Ariz. Grandparents Gilbert Knott and Jack and Lauretta O’Toole, all of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, predeceased him.

Among O’Toole’s favorite expressions was, “You drive for show and you putt for dough!” God bless him and keep him safe in golf heaven. Everyone whose lives he had touched will miss him.

Services are set for 10 a.m. Friday, May 13, at Laguna Beach’s St. Catherine of Siena Church, 1042 Temple Terrace.

  1. RIP J…. still thinking about you…. know your family and others might not have realized but you were one of my best friends even when it went lengthy times without contact. Always was hoping to plan to get you, me even, nick, Kirk and others together for a reunion soon. Miss you and keep living how you want.

  2. This page is the only record I can find in regards to my friend J who I never have forgotten. I recently saw an online post that Kenny passed away several years ago as well. I hope your having a laugh with him right now looking down on us. Since 2011 when I first heard of your passing not a week goes by without me stopping to think about you J and the friendship you had with me and many others. Still missing you years later. CC
