Football (1-2)
Breakers traveled to Segerstrom last Friday, Sept. 11, and the 2,500-student host school had no problems handling the visitors for Laguna’s 100th shutout in the program’s 81-year history. The Jags were able to run at will while putting pressure on quarterback Jack Simon that resulted in nine of his rushing attempts going for zero or minus yardage.
After Laguna’s first possession stalled after a net 18-yard gain, the hosts marched 90 yards in nine plays for the first score. Segerstrom recovered a partially blocked punt for their next possession, going nine yards on a single play for a 14-0 lead. The Jag’s next possession was three quick runs and a 21-0 margin. Occasionally Laguna would execute a great play, but Segerstrom’s defensive pressure limited any sustain drive.
Laguna will host another super-sized school when Westminster, the division’s top team, comes to Guyer Field on Friday, Sept. 18. Breakers will have a chance when they travel to Sage Hill on Friday, Sept. 25. All games kickoff at 7 p.m.
