Janie Cowlin, 1944-2013, beloved friend, artist and protector of the earth, left this planet on Sunday, Jan. 6, one week shy of her 69th birthday.

She was born and raised in Glendale, Calif., and spent summers with her parents at the beach.  She moved to Laguna in 1963.  She attended Orange Coast College and was actively involved in the fights against the toll roads, oil wells and development of Laguna Canyon.  She volunteered as a docent for the Laguna Greenbelt.  She was a cat lover and recently mourned the loss of Ma Cat, age 22.

Cowlin was an absolutely unique individual who could never be duplicated.  She is survived by many friends who love her and miss her.
