Laguna Beach residents Suzy K. and Jeff Elghanayan hosted an event recently that raised $100,000 for the newly established Orange County chapter of the Tahirih Justice Center, which provides legal aid and referrals to social services to immigrant women fleeing violence and forced marriage.

The Tahirih Justice Center, founded by Layli Miller-Muro in 1997, is based in Falls Church, Va. Miller-Muro is known for helping to bring a precedent-setting case that established gender-based persecution as grounds for asylum. The center received $6.7 million in contributions and grants in 2014, according to Guidestar.org, the non-profit tracking organization.

Ms. Elghanayans and other locals, include Sarah Vanderveen, Cathie Lawler, Catherine Biggers, Eli Ebrahimi, Darci Crawford, Rose Burtin, August Brice, Yvonne Riley and Jill Pillsbury, are among the center’s supporters.
