The Assistance League of Laguna Beach named Chris Keller businessperson of the year.

Keller is an active member of the League’s advisory council and has been involved with the Early Intervention Program for developmentally delayed infants, a program that he participated in himself with his son Rocco.

Laguna Presbyterian Church holds a worship service Friday, July 10, at 7 p.m. that includes members of the National Association of Church Musicians, who will lead the service with music included by Steve Amerson.

Summer Reading Program Continues 

            The free musical themed summer reading program, Read to the Rhythm, at Laguna Beach Library, 363 Glenneyre St., continues through Aug. 1.

It is designed to nurture a love of reading for all ages with prizes, free family entertainment, parties and crafts.

Teens 12-17 years who complete15 hours of reading will earn gift cards. The new adult summer reading program has weekly drawings for excellent prizes.

A strong turnout among yoga lovers took advantage of Pacific Blue Yoga’s grand opening last month for a day of free yoga, raffles and food and drink.

“The Yoga Fun Day was a blast! It was great to see everyone trying and enjoying new styles of yoga and having fun doing it,” said Marna Bright, who owns the studio at 610 N. Coast Highway

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Food Pantry Benefits From First Fundraiser

PantryPalooza drew 150 guests for a free concert by the Blues Offenders at the Marine Room Tavern on June 29. Elizabeth Haines, the group’s secretary and volunteer coordinator reported that 300 pounds of non-perishables and $7,000 were collected.

Guests enjoyed food from sponsor La Sirena Grill, and the Paloozapolitan, a specialty cocktail, proceeds from which, Marine Room owner Chris Keller donated to the pantry.

Board chair Dr. Korey Jorgensen honored 11-year board member Andy Siegenfeld, who recently stepped down but continues as volunteer.

Dina Garnatz won the grand prize, dinner at The Loft restaurant, donated by Hearts of Montage.

Nurturing Butterfly Habitat

The Laguna Beach Garden Club recently funded a garden upgrade at the Laguna Presbyterian Church preschool.

The new organic garden includes a butterfly garden bed with native, water-wise plants and a garden bed for growing seasonal edibles.

Celebrities Add Starpower to Film Screening

The second annual red-carpet documentary screening of “Maasai Daughters” will take place at the Port Theater in Newport Beach Sunday, July 12 from 6-9 p.m.

Olympic medalist skier Lindsey Vonn and ESPN Sports Center host Stan Varrett are expected to attend the screening sponsored by My Own Two Hands Foundation, based in Laguna Beach.

The film documents the lives of three girls and the women who rescued them from Kenya.
