Stagecraft for Small-fry

Children ages 6 through 18 can discover the joys of theater and learn the skills of performing live on stage by enrolling in Laguna Playhouse youth theatre classes.

The 10-week session meets once a week at the Laguna Playhouse, Boys & Girls Club or Woman’s Club. Classes include creative drama, acting fundamentals, intermediate acting, acting for teens, musical theatre and culminate with a class showcase presented to families and friends.

Fees for each class ranges from $160 to $225. For more information or to enroll in a class, call Kelly Herman at (949) 497-2787, ext. 230. Additional information can be found on The Laguna Playhouse website at www.lagunaplayhouse.com.

Fairy Tales Make the Leap to Opera

Newport Beach Public Library will host two free family concerts this fall, designed to develop an appreciation and understanding of music in young children.

The first family concert, scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 1 at 11 a.m., will feature members of the Southland Opera in “Adventures in Song and Story.” This interactive program uses familiar fairy tales and stories as a way to introduce children to operas, musicals and operettas. Children can participate by learning a dance with Hansel and Gretel, meeting the Three Little Maids from “The Mikado” and singing a song with Maria from “The Sound of Music.”

The free event will be held in the Friends Meeting Room at the Central Library, 1000 Avocado Ave. Concerts are recommended for children age four and older.  Children must be accompanied by an adult.

For more information, contact the Newport Beach Public Library at (949) 717-3860 or visit the website at www.newportbeachlibrary.org
