Derek Reigel and Marina Paul, two Laguna Beach High School students, were honored as athletes of the year this past Wednesday at the sixth annual Athletic Boosters All Sports Banquet.
Reigel, a first-team all-league performer in basketball and a four-year letter winner in football, finished his career third all-time in Laguna history in receiving touchdowns.
Paul was tabbed as the outstanding female athlete completing her career at the high school with a senior season that included first team all-league girls volleyball, league MVP, all-CIF girls’ soccer honors, and league champion on the girls’ track 4 x 100 relay.
Paul will be attending Georgetown University in the fall on a full-ride soccer scholarship.
All sports were recognized by their top upperclassman academic player, team MVP, and the team’s “Athlete of Character” who is a junior or senior who promotes advocates and models respect, fairness and good sportsmanship on and off the field.
