Teacher Sarah Ray is the Laguna Beach High School’s nominee for the California League of High Schools Educator of the Year Award.

The award is given annually to 11 educators who illustrate educational excellence and have made noteworthy improvements in high schools.

“I am pleasantly surprised and honored to receive this distinction when I know the remarkable quality of my fellow teachers at LBHS,” said Ray, who in addition to teaching English coaches cheerleaders.

Principal Don Austin said Ray has made a significant impact during her six years on the campus and says she is especially skilled at pushing students to accomplish great things in a relatively relaxed environment. “Like many great teachers, Ms. Ray is content to fly under the radar. For this occasion, we won’t allow her to simply blend into the crowd,” he said. “She is our star and is worthy of the recognition coming her way!”
