Ten local boys ages 12 to 13, all seventh-grade classmates, this summer formed a club to raise money for an LBHS scholarship for the next five years. They met in August and made some big decisions.
The founders settled on Ten Boys Who Care as their name and a $2,500 goal divided between a boy and girl graduating next June.
It started because these boys, all longtime sports participants, realize that winning isn’t everything, but know that being a “bad sport” can ruin everything. They want to celebrate a student who can tell them in an essay how their most embarrassing sports moment made them a better sport. Future recipients must participate in high school sport their senior year to qualify for consideration.
Each of the 10 holds an official position within the club, assisted by Tyler Metez, a senior at LBHS who is acting as their high school liaison. Mason Lebby and Enzo Sadler serve as co-presidents, Sammy Reynolds as treasurer, Blake Pivaroff and Noah Linder as fundraising co-chairs, Kent Cebreros as social chairman, Zack Bonnin as publicist, Gustav Morck in marketing and digital media, Ayrton Garcia as historian; and Sam Kluver as scholarship coordinator.
