Lee Ritenour Kicks Off Concerts on the Green

Grammy-winning Jazz guitarist Lee Ritenour kicks off the Festival of Arts’ summer music series Saturday, July 9, from 1 – 2:30 p.m., said Susan Davis, director of special events for the Festival of Arts.

Also this weekend, from 5:30 – 7:30 p.m., the blues players Missiles of October perform Saturday and John Proulx jazz trio performs on Sunday, July 10.

Street Corner Renaissance, an a capella doo wop group, also perform Sunday 2 – 4 p.m.

Concerts on the Green, 650 Laguna Canyon Road, are free with Festival of Arts admission. Limited seating is available in reserved section for $25 per person per concert. To reserve call 800-487-3378.

Lyons Returns to No Square Theatre

No Square Theatre presents percussionist Greg Lyons Saturday, July 9, at 7:30 p.m.,playing original music, contemporary, and jazz standards as part of a jazz quintet.

Dinner and beverages will be available at Historic Legion Hall, 384 Legion St., on the lawn for $10, beginning at 6:30 p.m., prepared by The White House restaurant.

Tickets are $20 and should be purchased in advance from nosquare.org.

 

 

 

Shake Up Summer with Elvis

“All Shook Up,” loosely based on Shakespeare’s Twelfth Night and a surprise visit from a mysterious leather-jacketed, guitar-playing stranger, who helps a small town discover the magic of rock ‘n’ roll, opens at Laguna Playhouse Sunday, July 10.

The show is directed by Steve Steiner with a book by Joe DiPietro, musical direction by Jeff Biering and choreography by Paula Hammons Sloan. The play at 606 Laguna Canyon Rd. will run through Sunday, Aug. 7.

Performances will be Wednesday through Saturday at 7:30 p.m., Saturday and Sunday at 2 and 1 p.m., respectively. Tickets, $40 – $75, can be purchased at 949 497- 2787.

 

Harp Duo Strikes a Chord

Harpists Ko Ni Choi and Hee Jin Yoon, who comprise Duo Gliss, will perform at 7 p.m. Thursday, July 14, at Laguna Art Museum, 307 Cliff Dr.

Duo Gliss, of Los Angeles, focuses on expanding harp music and educating young musicians, says a statement from presenter Laguna Beach Live.

Both conservatory-trained performers have been featured as soloists with various orchestras.
