Former Stray Cat band member and bass player, longtime Laguna Beach resident Lee Rocker, will be honored with a visionary award April 1 during Art Stars, the Laguna Beach Alliance for the Arts annual awards ceremony.

“The Laguna Beach community is well known for its support of the arts, and, living here, I’ve been able to find my creative, personal and professional home base,” said Rocker, also the event’s keynote speaker.

Additional awards, custom-designed by sculptor Louis Longi, will be presented to organizations, business and individuals who have contributed and shaped the arts and culture of the community and the county in four categories.

The winner of the Art Stars’ $5,000 inspiration grant will also be announced at the event, held at Seven Degrees in Laguna Canyon. The three finalists are Katlin Evans, for a visual arts project, “Mapping Family, Making Art; from England to Laguna Beach California and Back”; Jodie Gates, for a contemporary dance work with research in movement therapy and behavior studies; and Roark Gourley, for a film/documentary showcasing underwater footage of the human form in a liquid environment.

The Laguna Beach Alliance for the Arts was established in 2002 as the result of an exciting partnership among more than 20 Laguna Beach organizations. The mission is to serve as an advocate for the arts, promote collaboration and networking among the arts organizations of Laguna Beach, and to serve as a united voice for the arts in the city.
