Let the Ranch Go On

Editor,

I worked at Aliso Creek Inn & Golf Course, which is now The Ranch, when Ms. Brown owned it. It truly is Laguna’s Yosemite and yet it’s just 1300 feet from Aliso Beach and the closest hotel to South Laguna’s international “gay” beach, West Street.

I find it hard to believe that the new owner of one of Laguna’s most famous landmarks, Richard Halliburton’s “hang-over house” may have taken vengeance on the city of Laguna Beach for checking his plans for his re-enforced, cement house built in the late 1930’s.

They say that one person can throw a monkey wrench into a situation in Laguna. The hotel rooms at The Ranch were flooded in the 1969 torrential rains and again in the 1990s.  It makes sense that in re-imagining the 82-acre property, Mark Christy would want to strip the buildings and start anew as much as possible. I hope the project goes on as planned.
