Live! At the Museum Presents the Argus Quartet

Argus Quartet returns to the Laguna Art Museum for a free concert Thursday Aug. 14, from 7-8 p.m. Included in the performance will be “Ekphrasis,” a new music and dance commission by Laguna Beach Live!, Laguna Art Museum and Laguna Dance Festival.

The Los Angeles-based string quartet is dedicated to challenging the musical status quo through innovative concert presentations and adventurous repertoire. Its members include Jason Issokson and Clara Kim on violin, Diana Wade on viola, and Joann Whang on cello.

Jazz Vocalist Performs Outdoors

Jazz vocalist Meloney Collins performs jazz standards with a five-member band at The Ranch at Laguna Beach on Wednesday, Aug. 13, from 6-8 p.m.

Collins’s standards  include contemporary and classic tunes and newer sounds of today’s artists.

Art Auction Benefits Their Own    

5 getting out artists benevolence fund donating artistsSawdust Art Festival hosts its annual Artists’ Benevolence Fund Art Auction Sunday, Aug. 10, from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. The silent auction takes place in Healy House on the  Festival grounds and is free with admission.

The art auction is a chance for Sawdust exhibitors to donate their artwork and for patrons to replenish the Artists’ Benevolence Fund,  which aids artists in need.

Columnist Shares Her Wares in Cooking Series

Cathy Thomas, award-winning columnist and author, will demonstrate some of her favorite recipes and share samples of her finished creations from 1-2 p.m., Sunday, Aug. 10 at the Festival of Arts, 650 Laguna Canyon Rd.

As food columnist for the Orange County Register, Thomas won a first place award for best food columnist in the nation from the Association of Food Journalists. She pioneered the use of culinary-based videos, taping in her home kitchen with legendary chefs such as Thomas Keller.

The Art of Cooking demonstrations are free with festival admission, $6-$10.

Jeff Lorber Performs Live on the Green

 

Trailblazing keyboardist, composer and producer Jeff Lorber, a prominent figure in the jazz fusion movement, performs Saturday, Aug. 9, from 1-3 p.m. on the green at the Festival of Arts, 650 Laguna Canyon Rd.

The concert is free with admission to the Festival, $6-$10, or reserved seating for $25.
