Local Tavern Offers Free Comedy Show

Six comedians from Southern California will be featured in Brent Goodman Presents Stand Up Comedians, taking place at Hennessey’s Tavern on Thursday, Jan. 2, from 7 – 8:30 p.m.

Coinciding with Art Walk, the show will take place in the upstairs bar at Hennessey’s, 213 Ocean Ave. Appetizers and drinks will be half off and there is no cover charge or minimum drink order. From 9 p.m.-12 a.m. comedy lovers can stay on and dance to top ‘40s hits played DJ Sunny.

Flicks at the Forum

The free, First Friday Flicks at the Forum series resumes Jan. 3 at the Forum Theater on the Festival of Arts’ grounds. The Tivoli Terrace Bar opens at 6 p.m. and the screening of the feature length documentary, “Marina Abramovic: The Artist is Present” begins at 7 p.m.

The film follows the artist as she prepares for a major retrospective of her work at New York’s Museum of Modern Art. It is the chance to silence the question she has been hearing for four decades: “But why is this art?”3 getting out flicks image001

Audiences Vote in Playwriting Competition

San Juan Capistrano’s Camino Real Playhouse will stage seven, 10-minutes plays by seven different directors during a playwriting festival, which begins at 8 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 2. The audience will vote for the winners at the theater, 31776 El Camino Real.

Tickets are $18 for the festival preview on Jan. 2 and $24-34 for festival gala on Saturday, Jan. 4, with a buffet dinner at 6:30 and show at 8 p.m. Also Sundays Jan. 5 and 12 a at 2 p.m., Jan. 9-11 at 8 p.m.
