The high school marching band performed at the first home football game of the season before an enthusiastic crowd last Friday, Sept. 2. Band members were well prepared and wore matching shirts thanks in part to a Festival of Arts Foundation grant.

The $5,000 award to the LBHS Band Boosters helped pay for the informal uniform and allowed director Jeremy Chung to hire music clinicians for special sectional training in the week before school started, booster president Kathleen Fay said in a statement.

“It’s great to see our program grow, not just in the number of students who join us every year, but also in their dedication to playing music,” Chung said. “It’s hard for kids to give up their last week of summer to attend band practice every morning, but they were willing to work hard and the results proved worthwhile.”

“The Boosters share the FOA Foundation’s support and enthusiasm for the arts in Laguna Beach,” Fay said. “By promoting music early in life, we help to sustain our local culture and give youth the opportunity to develop a lifelong enjoyment of and appreciation for playing, performing, creating, and experiencing instrumental music.”
