Margie Marie Erick, a 20-year resident of Laguna Beach, passed away on Sept. 29, 2015, of natural causes in Yucca Valley. She was 89.

Margie was born Nov. 19, 1925, in Ennis, Texas.  As a child she picked cotton, was cousin to Clyde Barrow and attended the Consolidated School of New London, Texas. In 1937, when she was 12, the school exploded due to a gas leak and 250 students and teachers died. Margie was sick at home that day.

In her early 20s, she worked as a “Rosie Riveter” in Washington state. Years later she became a registered nurse, working in obstetrics and at Camarillo State Hospital. She also became a masseuse.

Erick was often ahead of her “time”, being involved in holistic type living, massage therapy and meditation long before these things were fashionable. She was a vibrant, feisty, courageous and innovative woman and will be missed.

Erick had two children, James Smith of Laguna Beach, and Sheryl Endresen of Yucca Valley. The family now spans three grandchildren and their spouses, Daneen Kaili and Jeffrey DeMorrow, Devin and Annette Endresen, and Jason and Leticia Brown; seven great-grandchildren, Nohea, Kawai, Jaelani, Tessa, Aaliyah, Trent and Terrant and new additions Jacob and Cade DeMorrow and Mila and Makiah Brown; and two great great grandchildren, Keolani and Ikea Kaili-Cockett. Erick loved to dance. May you dance with the Angels, Mom. We all love you. A hui hou.
