A gracious lady, wife, mother, grandmother with two great grandsons, Martha McCluskey died in her beach cottage and entered eternal rest with the loving God and His people at age 82.

She was born in Fort Wayne, Indiana, to Florence and Hiram Webster.  Her family moved to California in the 1940s.

Martie had an amazing gift for finding beauty, joy and elegance in nature. She taught her children and grandchildren to appreciate God’s creation: the sky, the ocean, flowers and other lovely things. As an adult, and married woman, a perfect day would be attending a Christian worship service, helping others, being present with family and friends and enjoying good food and beverage.

She was educated in public schools in Glendale, CA, attended Whitworth University and graduated from Occidental College where she received training to be a school teacher. She taught school in Burbank and Palo Alto. In Sonora she was a teaching assistant in a high school with special education students.

In Laguna Beach she was a devoted member of the Assistance League and an enthusiastic supporter of their projects, especially EIP (Early Intervention Program) to encourage families of children with special needs. Also, she attended Laguna Presbyterian Church.

Martie loved Laguna where she has resided with her husband Jim in the family cottage since 1979.

Earlier this year she was diagnosed with lymphoma cancer which was the cause of her death on July 19.

She is survived by her husband Jim, daughters Julie (Clark), and Laura (Jon) as well as son Andrew (Kerri).

A memorial service will be held at the Laguna Presbyterian Church on Saturday, August 30 at 10 a.m. In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to Assistance League of Laguna or Laguna Presbyterian Church.
