peer mentoring program known as Juntos, which means together, is offered students in grades four through 12.

The program begun in 2004 continues to provide an opportunity for students to strengthen their English-speaking skills and receive support in academic subjects, says a school district statement.

This year, the program includes a new focus assisting students with the transition between middle school and high school and developing a pathway to college and careers.

Juntos is free and enrollment is open for the remainder of the school year. It meets every Tuesday and Thursday from 2:30 p.m. to 5 p.m. in room 90 located above the high school swimming pool, 670 Park Ave. Buses are provided for elementary and middle school students, who are met by staff.

About 20 student volunteers serve as mentors. The program is led by Yadhira Rojas.
