Music Festival Offers Scores of Events

Tickets are on sale for the Laguna Beach Music Festival with three weekend concert performances Feb. 12-15 preceded by the Thursday Taste of the Festival, which will allow guests to mix and mingle with the musicians while enjoying hors d’oeuvres and wine.

The opening night concert at 8 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 13, is a collaboration between the Los Angeles Guitar Quartet and the Los Angeles Percussion Quartet. The highlight of the evening will be the world premiere of a new work, “Ymir,” commissioned by Laguna Beach Music Festival and written especially for the occasion by composer Jeffrey Holmes, conducted by Brian Head. The concert will also feature Steve Reich’s “Six Marimbas,” Steve Forman’s “Bitcoins” and John Bergamo’s “Piru Bol.”

The Saturday show at 8 p.m. celebrates Valentine’s Day with a performance by the L.A. Flamenco dance troupe. And at 3 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 15, Don Quixote comes to life with images and lighting, accompanied by LAGQ’s arrangements of music from Spain’s Golden Age. Immediately following, a panel discussion and Q&A on “Don Quixote and the Art of Adaptation” will be held onstage with actor Phil Proctor and LAGQ.
